Academic & Professional Background
Professor Silberbauer undertook medical training at the University of Cambridge and University College London, later earning his MD (Res) from City St George's, University of London. To further specialise in complex arrhythmias, he completed a competitive EHRA advanced VT fellowship under the tutelage of Dr Paolo Della Bella at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy.

In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Silberbauer supervises PhD and MD (Res) students in Clinical and Experimental Medicine Department at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) and the University of Sussex. He is widely published in high-impact medical journals and is an active faculty member and speaker at major global cardiology forums, including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the Heart Rhythm Congress (HRC).

Research interests

John Silberbauer is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist whose clinical research focuses heavily on optimising catheter ablation techniques for complex, life-threatening heart rhythms. He is globally recognised for pioneering the "EpiCO2" technique (Coronary Vein Exit and $CO_2$ Insufflation), an innovative method designed to treat ventricular tachycardia (VT) and persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) by safely targeting arrhythmogenic tissue on the outside of the heart. By utilising controlled micro-perforation of a coronary vein to introduce carbon dioxide into the pericardial space, his technique transforms a traditionally high-risk, blind needle entry into a safely visualised, guided procedure. Ultimately, his work spans clinical trials and mechanistic studies aimed at improving procedural safety and long-term outcomes.
