About me
Hello and welcome. I'm Helen. Nice to meet you.
I value individuality, difference and diversity and demonstrate equality and inclusion for all my clients working cross-culturally with a diverse range of clients spanning all ages, cultures, religions, ethnicities and sexualities.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is paramount in counselling. When we feel heard in a non-judgemental and empathic way, we can explore our feelings without the fear of being judged.
I will provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment that is both accepting and empowering. From here you can safely explore and express your thoughts, feelings and emotions in confidence. I will walk alongside you on your journey offering support, empathy, and encouragement and, from time to time, guidance and appropriate gentle challenging.
I believe you have your own inner strength and resources and you are capable of reaching your full potential ... it's just hard to do this alone.
As that companion walking alongside you on your journey, I work in an integrative way tailoring different counselling theories to your individual needs and personal circumstances, believing there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling.
The theories I practice are humanistic, focusing on your values and self worth; psychodynamic, discovering how your unconscious thoughts affect your current behaviour; cognitive, looking at how your thoughts and perceptions can affect your feelings and behaviour; existentialism, exploring meaning through a philosophical perspective.
I have a keen interest in attachment styles and how we carry forward our early life experiences into adulthood, and the implications this has on our relationships.
