About me
Hello. My name is Lisa. I am a qualified, experienced, BACP accredited therapist and clinical supervisor. I offer in person, online and telephone counselling under your Bupa policy. I am flexible and clients can opt for different ways to access their therapy that work best for their location, pocket, health or other reasons. I work with people of all ages (children, young people, adults, older adults, couples, groups and therapy trainees.)
I offer a safe, empathic space to support you to work any issues that are troubling. It could be processing difficult feelings, working on change and finding new strategies, building resilience to manage challenging circumstance and events.
All sessions are confidential so that you can speak freely about aspects of your life that you may not be able to discuss with others. My practice is to empower you to make choices yourself about your life that will help you to feel better and move forward.
Recent qualifications.
In 2022, I trained to become an EMDR practitioner. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy
helps client to let go of the emotional stranglehold of past traumas and disturbing memories. These may continue to present into their current lives through nightmares, flashbacks, triggers, emotional upset in relationships and everyday living and other ways. Letting go of the past helps clients to function better in the present and make life enhancing choices and changes for their futures.
In 2024-5, I qualified as a CBT practitioner. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is a talking therapy that helps you understand that your thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physical sensations are connected. In changing one, you can change the others. Sad feelings can sometime lead to negative thoughts and actions. In noticing and changing these unhelpful thoughts and actions, we can gradually feel better.
Working together we will assess your problems, consider how they affect you personally, and agree a treatment plan. I will help you learn evidence-based CBT techniques that you can use yourself. The techniques offered and how and why they can help you will be discussed in the therapy sessions.
Experience
I have over 10 years experience working in different settings (charities, schools, hospices and privately.)
LGBTQI+
For 3 years, I worked for the Terrence Higgins Trust, a national HIV charity and have specialist training supporting those living with HIV, those with sexual health and psychosexual issues as well as members of the LGBTQI+ communities. As a former medical journalist, I was supported in this role through years of reporting on medical specialties, the NHS and private sector and on medical research.
One to one and couples work
I have experience of helping people that are anxious and depressed, feel sad and overwhelmed by change, experience panic attacks, or feel worthless. I also work with couples on their relationships and those coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.
Young people
I have specialist training for therapy work with children and young people through the child counselling charity, Place2Be. I work with this young client group on a range of issues - worry, comparing, body image and disordered eating, social media, family relationships, academic performance, abuse and domestic violence.
I am an integrative therapist which means I use different ways of working from different therapeutic models depending on you and your needs. I offer short term and longer-term therapy to clients and can work either way. Short term therapy is usually 6 or 12 sessions and I have much experience in working time-limited on particular goals as well as offering longer term psychotherapeutic support for deeper issues.
I adhere to the BACP ethical guidelines for the profession. This guides me in my practice as a therapist and clinical supervisor.
Please contact me if you would like to discuss how I might help you.
