About me
Dr Stirrat's specialist area is treating patients with cardiac rhythm disturbances who have symptoms such as palpitations and blackouts. He is highly experienced in carrying out catheter ablation procedures including atrial fibrillation and other complex ablations, and implanting cardiac pacemakers and complex devices such as CRT and ICDs.
Dr Stirrat is currently an author of the Cardiology chapter in Davidson's; Practices and Principles of Medicine (25th edition) due to be published in 2026. This internationally renowned textbook has sold over 3 million copies worldwide.
He is accredited with the European Society of Cardiology as a devices and electrophysiology specialist. He is a member of the Scottish Cardiac Society, and European Heart Rhythm Association of the European Society of Cardiology.
He attended the University of Aberdeen medical school before completing medical training in hospitals throughout Scotland. He undertook specialist Cardiology training in Edinburgh, including being awarded a research PhD in cardiac MRI. In 2018, he left Scotland for Sydney, Australia, to complete a clinical training fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology, before returning to NHS Lothian as a consultant in 2019.
