About me
I'm an experienced BACP Senior Accredited counsellor specialising in depression, low mood, bereavement, grief and adjustment to significant life changes. I help adults who feel emotionally stuck, disconnected from themselves, or overwhelmed by loss to find clarity, acceptance and renewed hope.
Many of the people I work with have spent a long time trying to cope on their own. They may look as though they're managing on the outside, while privately feeling exhausted, numb or weighed down by emotions that haven't eased with time. Whether you're living with depression, grieving someone important, adjusting to a relationship breakdown or another major life change, therapy offers a safe place to understand what's happening and begin moving forward.
I provide one-to-one counselling for adults aged 18 and over, either online throughout the UK or in person from my dedicated therapy room in Barnoldswick, Lancashire.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked as a pharmacist for 16 years. Following my own experience of loss, depression and the healing power of therapy, I retrained as a counsellor, initially volunteering within a GP surgery before joining NHS Talking Therapies. Over many years, I've supported adults experiencing depression and low mood, helping them regain emotional wellbeing and reconnect with their lives.
Alongside my private practice, I have extensive NHS experience and hold BACP Senior Accreditation, recognising a high standard of knowledge, competence and ethical practice. I am also a qualified supervisor of counsellors and undertake ongoing specialist supervision and continuing professional development.
Clients often describe me as warm, genuine and empathic. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you don't have to pretend you're coping or have the right words prepared. We'll work at a pace that feels right for you, whether you need gentle support or want to explore difficult emotions more deeply. I welcome people from all backgrounds and communities, and my practice is neuro-affirming. Living with hidden disabilities has also given me a deep appreciation of the challenges that can accompany health conditions and neurodivergence.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is evidence-based and centred around your individual needs. I use Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression, a NICE-approved psychological therapy recommended for the treatment of depression. This humanistic approach integrates person-centred counselling with emotion-focused therapy and is supported by research for people experiencing depression and persistent low mood.
I believe emotional distress often develops when painful feelings remain unprocessed following experiences such as bereavement, relationship difficulties, significant life changes or other challenging events. Therapy provides the opportunity to safely explore these experiences, helping you understand yourself more fully, reduce emotional distress and develop healthier ways of living.
Rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, I work collaboratively with you. Through empathic listening, curiosity and acceptance, we'll explore your thoughts, emotions, bodily experiences and patterns of relating, helping you make sense of your experiences and reconnect with your own strengths and values.
My aim is to help you feel more emotionally settled, understand yourself with greater compassion, and move towards a life that feels more meaningful, authentic and hopeful.
I provide individual therapy via video-call or in person from a dedicated therapy room in my home in Barnoldswick, East Lancashire. I don't offer sessions via telephone.
I look forward to meeting you when you're ready to take the next step.
