Mr. Lawrence is one of the best hip replacement and knee replacement surgeons in the country. His redo rate is 1/3of the national average for hip replacement and 1/2the national average for knee replacement. He specialises in complex surgeries in young patients and difficult revision operations. He has been operating as a consultant since 1999 and has undertaken over 3000 primary hip replacements and almost 1000 revision hip surgeries. Mr Lawrence specialises in young patients with poorly formed hips and he reconstructs the hip joints with bone grafting. Mr. Lawrence is frequently referred patients with hip replacements complicated by fractures, infections, dislocations, and bone damage.
His outcomes, according to the National Joint Registry, are excellent and he achieves a revision rate 1/3th of the National average. In younger patients, his revision rate is even better at almost 1/10th of the national average.
His other interests include keyhole surgery of the knee joint and knee joint replacement surgery.
Background
Mr. Lawrence graduated from Edinburgh University in 1986. He has worked at the finest orthopaedic centres in the UK, including Wrightington Hospital where the pioneering hip replacement work by Sir John Charnley was undertaken and Exeter, where major advances in hip design and surgical technique were made. Throughout his professional career, Mr Lawrence has been improving on the techniques learnt at these centres. Mr. Lawrence spent one year at The University of Virginia, Charlottesville USA as a surgical and research fellow.
