About me
I have been a consultant since 1999 at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and now Royal Derby Hospitals. I am a general surgeon with special interest in vascular and endocrine surgery. I trained in the West of Scotland, during which time I undertook a MD thesis in surgical management of malignant melanoma. I have been instrumental in the development of vascular services in Derbyshire. I enjoy walking in the Derbyshire Peak District and also playing golf. I enjoy opera and the theatre.
Areas of interest
I am a general surgeon and I see general surgical problems such as hernias including inguinal hernias, femoral hernia, incisional hernia, epigastric, umbilical and paraumbilical hernia. I have a special interest in abdominal wall hernia reconstruction. I perform both open and laparoscopic hernia repairs. I also see patients with rectal bleeding, including hemorrhoids', and anal fissures and perform sigmoidoscopy. I undertake upper gastroscopy to investigate heartburn and indigestion and perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gall bladder problems. I also perform minor surgery for ingrowing toe nails and skin lesions.
I undertake both thyroid surgery and parathyroid surgery.
As a vascular surgeon, I undertake treatment of varicose veins surgery including radiofrequency, foam injections and also open varicose veins surgery. I undertake carotid artery surgery arterial bypass surgery and both endoscopic and open repair of aortic aneurysm.
