About me

Dr Martin Gray is a Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Intensivist practising in London at Bright Futures Health, Chiswick Outpatients, The Cromwell Hospital and Wimpole Street Consulting Rooms. He sees children and young people from birth to adolescence for general paediatric consultations, child health and development reviews, and structured preventative care.

His hospital career has been in paediatric intensive care, most recently at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital, looking after critically ill children with cancer, congenital heart disease, severe infection, respiratory failure, major trauma, and neurological and neurosurgical conditions. That experience shapes how he assesses children in clinic: he is used to complex and unwell children, and to judging when a symptom needs acting on and when a family can safely be reassured.

Dr Gray trained in paediatrics and paediatric critical care in the UK and Australia, and completed a three-year fellowship in paediatric critical care at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. His first senior appointment was as Assistant Professor at McMaster University in Canada, where he joined the paediatric critical care team. As a Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care at St George's Hospital, London, he led the development and expansion of the paediatric intensive care unit, working with the team to deliver strong outcomes for children with cancer who require intensive care.

He has a longstanding interest in clinical informatics and is a Founding Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics. He was appointed St George's first Chief Clinical Information Officer in 2013, during which time the hospital became the second in the UK to reach HIMSS stage 6 for digital maturity.

Dr Gray is an advocate for preventative paediatric healthcare and is introducing the American Academy of Pediatrics' Bright Futures child health surveillance programme to the United Kingdom. At Bright Futures Health he works alongside Dr Margarita Burmester, providing paediatric primary care, longitudinal child health surveillance and evidence-based preventative care for families � a service designed to sit alongside a child's NHS care rather than replace it.

Please note: Dr Gray's private practice is for planned, non-acute care. Children who are acutely unwell should be seen by their GP, NHS urgent care or an emergency department.
