About me
Mr Onur Berber is a London-based Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, with subspecialist expertise in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, and upper limb. He holds a substantive NHS consultant post at The Royal Free Hospital, a leading teaching hospital in central London.
Known for his meticulous approach and commitment to delivering personalised, evidence-based care, Mr Berber treats both routine and complex upper limb conditions, including sports injuries, fractures, nerve compression syndromes, arthritis, tendon disorders, and trauma-related injuries.
Following his core orthopaedic training, Mr Berber undertook a series of highly competitive hand surgery fellowships, developing advanced surgical skills across leading UK and European centres of excellence:
Guy's and St Thomas' Hand Unit - London
British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) Fellowship - Oxford University Hospitals
Pulvertaft Hand Centre Derby - internationally renowned for complex hand surgery
Institut de la Main Paris - through a Traveling Fellowship awarded by the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH)
These experiences allowed Mr Berber to refine specialist techniques in arthroscopic wrist surgery, microsurgery, spasticity management, and nerve repair - key areas of his clinical interest today.
Mr Berber completed his medical education at University College London (UCL) Medical School, graduating with distinctions in anatomy and physiology. He also holds a First-Class Honours degree in Medical Biochemistry.
He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr&Orth) in 2015 and has gone on to earn several advanced qualifications including:
Master's degree in Trauma and Orthopaedics
Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine
BSSH Diploma in Hand Surgery - the gold standard qualification for UK hand surgeons
An advocate for continuous professional development, Mr Berber is deeply involved in medical education and surgical training. He holds an academic role as Honorary Clinical Lecturer at UCL Medical School and is a tutor for the BSSH Hand Diploma.
He has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications, presented research at national and international orthopaedic conferences, and regularly teaches on training courses for junior doctors, surgeons, and allied health professionals.
Mr Berber believes in a patient-centred, multidisciplinary approach to orthopaedic care, ensuring each patient receives a personalised treatment plan that carefully considers both non-surgical and surgical options. He is passionate about restoring movement, reducing pain, and helping patients return to their everyday activities whether that's elite sport, work, or parenting.
Away from the clinic and operating theatre, Mr Berber enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. His interests outside of medicine include travel, fitness, and exploring the outdoors with his family.
