About us

Mr Constantin Durnea is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based primarily at the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he works at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital. He is the hospital's lead urogynaecology specialist, with expertise in the management of vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence (including robotic surgery), pelvic and vaginal pain, and recurrent urinary tract infections. He also manages a broad range of general gynaecological conditions, including menstrual disorders, fibroids, polyps, ovarian cysts, PCOS, and chronic vaginal discharge.

Mr Durnea graduated in medicine from Nicolae Testemi?anu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, where he also completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1997. Following his move to Ireland, he completed a PhD focusing on pelvic floor dysfunction related to childbirth. He was awarded Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 2011 and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists the following year.

In addition to his NHS work, Mr Durnea sees private patients at Bishops Wood Hospital, Spire Harpenden Hospital, and Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

Mr Durnea remains actively involved in research and regularly contributes to peer-reviewed journals. He participates in the work of several professional organisations dedicated to improving standards within urogynaecology, including the International Urogynecological Association and the International Collaboration for Harmonising Outcomes in Urogynaecology. He also served as an elected member of the International Urogynecological Association Terminology and Standardisation Committee, contributing to the development and harmonisation of urogynaecological terminology internationally.

An enthusiastic educator and supervisor, Mr Durnea is actively involved in training junior doctors and supporting specialist trainees. He also delivers educational courses for general practitioners in areas including pelvic floor dysfunction, female urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse management.
