About me
Dr Ricardo José, a distinguished expert in respiratory medicine, serves as a Consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital. With vast knowledge and experience in his field, he provides excellent care for patients experiencing a wide range of respiratory symptoms, including breathlessness, coughing, chest discomfort, and wheezing.
Dr José has particular expertise in the identification and treatment chest infections, bronchiectasis, coughs, breathlessness and pulmonary issues associated with cancer therapies.
His expertise is built on a solid academic background; he holds a Diploma in Anaesthetics from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Respiratory Infection, Inflammation, and Immunity from University College London (UCL).
Dr José's commitment to his specialty extends to both respiratory medicine and general internal medicine, giving him an understanding of patient's co-morbidities. He advanced his practice as an academic clinical fellow and clinical lecturer at UCL, earning the prestigious Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship for his research. His scholarly endeavours have earned him accolades from esteemed bodies such as the European Respiratory Society, Royal Society of Medicine, and Academy of Medical Sciences.
An active contributor to the advancement of respiratory medicine, Dr José has published over 75 peer-review manuscrips and several book chapter. He served as an elected member of the British Thoracic Society Council and its Standards of Care Committee, as well as its Science and Research Committee. He currently holds the position of deputy clinical immunologist in the North West London sub-regional immunoglobulin assessment panel and is an Honorary Associate Professor at UCL.
Dr José has conducted observerships at the renowned MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, USA, in 2015 and 2019, broadening his understanding of respiratory complications in cancer patients.
