About me

Mr. Andrej Kidess is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at The Priory Hospital and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, specialising in complex retinal and cataract procedures. With a focus on macular surgeries, including macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and diabetic eye surgeries, he has established himself as a dedicated Retinal Specialist with expertise in Medical Retina, Surgical Retina, Cataracts, and Uveitis.
Mr. Kidess has made significant contributions to University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), particularly in addressing capacity challenges in both medical and surgical retina care. He serves as the Lead of the Vitreoretinal Service at UHB and heads the supra-regional Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) service. Additionally, he is the Clinical Laser Protection Supervisor for the department, ensuring safety and quality standards in laser procedures.
Believing that excellence in eye surgery is achieved through a blend of education and experience, Mr. Kidess pursued comprehensive training as an ophthalmologist, followed by two fellowships in Medical Retina at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and two more in Vitreoretinal Surgery at Western Eye Hospital in London. His commitment extends beyond clinical practice to medical research, having published numerous articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and contributed to book chapters. Mr. Kidess is also active in sharing his expertise, presenting his work at national and international ophthalmology conferences.
