About me
Mr Ashely Hay is a consultant surgeon in ENT, Head and Neck and Thyroid surgery. He is a Consultant in Edinburgh and NHS Lothian. He is a member of the South East Scotland multidisciplinary groups for Head and Neck Cancer, Endocrine and Thyroid Cancer as well part of the Edinburgh neck lump assessment service.
He holds a Honorary Clinical Senior Lectureship at the Edinburgh University and regularly teaches students and lectures at national courses.
He graduated from Manchester Medical School with Honours in his degree and gained Distinction in formal examinations. He took his initial medical rotations at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital and St Georges Hospital, London. His higher surgical training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck surgery started in 2010 in the London South West Thames deanery, training at many renowned London and home counties hospitals which included St Georges Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, Frimley Park Hospital and the Royal Surrey County hospital in Guildford. He secured a national Training Interface Group (TIG) fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital for Head and Neck surgery. After finishing his UK training and achieving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) he travelled to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, USA, to undertake an additional specialist fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology for one year.
In addition to his clinical training he has achieved a MSc with Merit from University College London in Evidence Based Healthcare. This has fostered an interest in research and the application of how the science from studies and trials in collated, interpreted and used to further clinical practice. He also won competitive funding to complete a research fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, USA. During his research year he completed projects on TORS (Transoral Robotic Surgery), salivary gland cancers and nomograms. He has presented his work internationally and continues to be an active contributor to research and publications. Links to his pubmed, researchgate and university websites can be found below.
