About me
Robert Hone is a leading ENT consultant specialist with extensive experience working in Kent. Mr Hone trained throughout South East England, rotating through ENT units in London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex and is a consultant at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. He is a member of Kent and Sussex ENT, a group of 5 experienced surgeons providing a complete ENT Service.
Robert Hone qualified in 2008 and completed an intercalated Batchelor of Science degree in physiology in 2005.During specialist training he completed a Masters of Surgery in ENT for which he obtained a distinction Mr Hone undertook a famed specialty fellowship in advanced Head & Neck Surgical Oncology and completed his paediatric ENT training at Great Ormond Street Hospital for children and has been paediatric lead in East Kent.
Robert Hone takes pride in a patient centred approach, listening and responding to patients concerns through a detailed history and examination. He places patients at the heart of the consultation and decision making process. Mr Hone's communication and surgical skills have been consistently highlighted as areas of excellence throughout the annual appraisals process and the care he provides is of the highest standard.
Robert Hone known and respected throughout ENT departments in South East England. He has introduced local regional teaching programmes including for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex school of Surgery. Mr Hone has lectured for King's College as part of an anatomy Batchelors of Science degree. In East Kent he is educational supervisor to specialist ENT trainees and is lead for foundation year 1 training at the William Harvey Hospital. Mr Honed has been named consultant trainer of the year in East Kent on two occasions.
Mr Hone has published numerous peer review publications, including book chapters and papers from individual and collaborative work on hearing, thyroid and parathyroid disease, head and neck cancer, Menieres disease, surgical training and diseases of the nose and sinuses. His academic work has been presented at multiple national and international meetings influencing health policy. He continues to take an active role in research and introduced the international phase III clinical trial, PATHOS to East Kent which has led to foundation of a head and neck robotic programme in Kent. He was principle investigator at the trust for the PET NECK 2 clinical trial and has been department audit lead. His quality improvement and service development projects include a dozen audits and new departmental equipment for outpatients and theatre.
In his spare time, Mr Hone loves spending family time with his wife and two daughters. He is a keen sports fan having played to a high standard at school, and university and has recently started bee keeping.
