About me
Mr Schofield is a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Colorectal Surgery who has been at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital for over 23 years.
The majority of his work involves the investigation and treatment of rectal bleeding, ano-rectal symptoms, changes in bowel habits and abdominal pain.
His interests include the diagnosis and management of haemorrhoids, anal fissures, fistulae and pilonidal sinus as well as colorectal cancer, diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
He also treats abdominal hernias, such as inguinal or femoral hernias, incisional hernias and skin lesions or lumps and bumps.
Outpatient clinics are held every Wednesday and Friday mornings and there are weekly diagnostic colonoscopy lists and operating lists for day and inpatient surgery.
Mr Schofield trained at St Bartholomews Hospital and his specialist colorectal training was at St Marks Hospital, London. He was appointed consultant general and colorectal surgeon at the Shrewsbury and Telford hospitals in May 2000. He held several management positions in the colorectal department but particularly enjoyed teaching medical students and junior doctors in his role as an honorary senior lecturer at Keele University. He retired from full-time NHS work in May 2022 but continues to do NHS clinics and operating lists at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
