About me
Mr Bharathan is a highly experienced Consultant Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgeon, practicing at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and Spire Nottingham Hospital. He is recognised for his expertise in minimally invasive surgical techniques, treating benign and cancer resections and has a patient-focused approach to colorectal care.
After completion of his MB BS in 1996, he was awarded a Masters in General Surgery (MS) in 2002. He further advanced his surgical training in the UK, achieving Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2004 and later, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCSEd) in 2011. He was awarded a masters degree (MD) in 2011 from Newcastle University for his research on colorectal cancer outcomes, reflecting his strength in academia and research.
He has completed the specialist national fellowship in laparoscopic surgery, equipping him with advanced skills in keyhole procedures including a technique called scar less surgery for bowel called SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery). His clinical practice focuses on common ano-rectal conditions like haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas, keyhole and open groin hernia surgery as well as complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery. He also does diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy as well as rectal preservations surgery for complex polyps and early rectal cancer called TEO (Transanal Endoscopic Operation) as well colectomy and proctectomy including complex pelvic surgery.
