About me
I have been a consultant dermatologist for 27 years. I graduated with honours (distinctions in the final professional examinations) and trained in dermatology as registrar and senior registrar at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals in Oxford. I enjoyed a year as an ARC Immunodermatology fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. Following which I completed my doctorate on cutaneous lupus erythematosus. I have extensive experience in the full range of skin diseases, whether inflammatory or tumours, in all age groups.
I gained MBChB in 1985 at the University of Cape Town, with distinctions in the final professional examinations and degree awarded with honors. I trained in dermatology as a registrar and senior registrar at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals in Oxford and was appointed as a consultant dermatologist in 1995.
I have extensive experience in the full range of 1,000+ skin diseases, ranging from inflammatory (eczema, allergy, psoriasis, acne) through to tumours (harmless or cancerous), in all age groups. Additionally I was the Trafford skin cancer lead from 2003 to 2009.
During my long consultant career, additional responsibilities have included: NW Deanery specialist training program dermatology career lead, British Association of Dermatologists clinical services committee (11-present), specialist society officer BSSVD (President), ISSVD council, media adviser (newspapers and TV), editorial board journal of the lower genital tract, Greater Manchester Dermatology audit lead (1999 to 2007).
