About us

UPDATE: I have capacity for autism and ADHD assessments at the moment (and can offer consultations specifically about whether an assessment is needed for your child) but have very little capacity for more general therapy work at the moment.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dr Joshua Harwood is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist specialising in working with children, young people and families. He is the clinical director of Harwood Child Psychology and oversees that every intervention and assessment is of the highest quality so that young people can thrive.

Josh has worked for the NHS as a lead clinical psychologist and course lead on a nationwide autism project, training NHS staff across the UK how to work more effectively with young people with autism.

Josh has worked for a number of years at the Centre for Parent and Child Support, a national and specialist CAMHS service in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation trust. Here he worked in the Helping Families Team, which provided 1:1, home-based psychological treatment for parents and children with severe and complex mental health needs. He is therefore comfortable with working with most mental health difficulties common in children and young people.

Josh has led a research team at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, developing and evaluating evidence-based interventions for young people and parents.

He is a module convenor and lecturer at University College London and the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, lecturing on a master’s programme in developmental psychology and clinical practice.

Josh regularly undertakes independent expert witness assessments for the family courts for families engaged with stressful care proceedings. He is registered with both the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professions Council. He is a full member of the Division for Clinical Psychology.

He has completed doctoral training in clinical psychology and a master’s degree in developmental psychology and clinical practice. He has previously worked at the Tavistock and Portman Hospital, London, in their CAMHS team as well as at Hammersmith CAMHS.

Josh teaches and lectures widely and writes academic papers and reports, including writing reports advising UK government on policies for working with parents and children with complex needs.
