About me
I'm Dr Maria Pournara, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and HCPC registered clinician. I offer therapy in Central London (W1), Canary Wharf (E14) and online, working mainly with high-functioning adults and professionals experiencing anxiety, work-related stress and depression/low mood.
Many people I see are coping outwardly but feel internally overloaded, caught in cycles of worry, rumination, perfectionism, self-criticism, or emotional suppression. I also specialise in attachment and relationship difficulties, including people-pleasing, fear of disappointing others, conflict avoidance, emotional withdrawal, or repeating patterns in close relationships and at work.
My approach is evidence-based and structured. We develop a clear understanding of what is maintaining the difficulties, agree goals early, and focus on interventions that translate into day-to-day change: steadier emotional regulation, reduced symptom-maintaining habits, clearer boundaries, and more secure, flexible relating. Sessions are collaborative and clinically focused, with regular review of progress.
