About me

Hello, my name is Sisi and I am a Counselling Psychologist.
?
My background and how I became a Counselling Psychologist

?My journey to becoming a Counselling Psychologist started in school, where I began developing curiosity and passion towards psychology: theories that explained interpersonal relationships and human behaviours, and types of intervention that could treat complex challenges. This led me to study Psychology at university and went on to complete my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at City, University of London. Throughout my training, I had the privilege of working with a diverse group of individuals, such as children, adults across all age groups, families, and adult offenders that are detained in a secure unit. I have also worked in various mental health sectors: NHS, private practice, primary and secondary schools, and the forensic service for number of years.

My training not only provided me with valuable experiences and knowledge, it also highlighted the complexity of interpersonal issues; the importance of building meaningful relationships, and how therapy can support personal, emotional, and spiritual development.

I currently work as a Counselling Psychologist for the NHS in a forensic service, and I am also a member of the Health and Professions Council (HCPC).

?What I aim to offer clients

I would describe myself as a friendly, empathic, and curious individual. I aim to offer a safe, non-judgemental, and containing therapeutic environment for my clients, where you can feel cared for and listened to. I also believe that therapy can encourage personal growth by recognising your strengths, values, and vulnerabilities. Therefore, I value the collaborative nature of therapy, where we can work together to find your place of stuck-ness and ways to help you through your difficulties in a way that best suits you.

The types of therapy I use and the kind of difficulties I work with

?I strongly believe in individuality and the uniqueness of each clients personal story and narrative, so I offer one-to-one therapy that is tailored to your needs. I practice from an integrative approach which include modalities such as the Person-Centred Therapy, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Systemic Family Therapy.

I have experiences of working with a variety of complex presentations and difficulties, such as attachment issues, anxiety, bereavement, depression, OCD, phobias, personality disorders, psychosis, relationship issues, self-harm, and substance misuse.

?My interests outside of psychology

?Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading (mostly fictional novels and stories), painting, or watching documentaries and dramas on the telly. I recently took up exercising as an attempt to improve my physical health (because I just dont do it often enough!), though I am still trying to adjust to the new lifestyle change and getting used to the muscle pain afterwards.
