About me

Dr Priya Nathwani qualified as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in 2018 from the highly renowned Maudsley Training scheme with significant experience in the assessment and management of childhood emotional and mental health disorders. During this time Dr Nathwani worked in a variety of jobs including the National and Specialist Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) service, a community neurodevelopmental service for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), liaison psychiatry at Kings College Hospital and an adolescent outpatient team managing high risk presentations.

As a consultant Dr Nathwani has worked in Oxleas NHS trust and co-led the introduction of a new child and adolescent crisis and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) service. Dr Nathwani has completed the foundation training in DBT and has significant experience in the assessment and management of young people with suicidal and self harming behaviours. Dr Nathwani also has training in systemic theory, cognitive behavioural therapy and parent training. Dr Nathwani moved into private healthcare in 2020 and has led a variety of inpatient adolescent wards including a general adolescent, intensive care and low secure unit, treating complex mental health presentations. Dr Nathwani's current role is within the Priory Group in a private Child and Adolescent outpatient department.

Dr Nathwani uses a holistic and psycho social model to assess and provide diagnoses and formulations for young people in emotional distress. She works collaboratively with young people and their families to provide individualised treatment plans. Dr Nathwani has always received positive feedback about her approachable manner and ability to ensure families feel comfortable to talk about their personal stories.

Dr Nathwani has been a specialist advisor to the Care Quality Commission and is passionate about ensuring high quality care is provided to young people in mental health services.

Dr Nathwani is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and registered with the General Medical Council on the specialist register.
