About me

I am a senior consultant psychiatrist with over 35 years experience in both the NHS and the private sector. I have a wealth of experience in all aspects of adult psychiatry. From 1999 until 2023 I was a senior examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatry MRCPsych exams. I was also a specialist advisor in mental health to the Care Quality Commission, Department of Health from 2015 until 2023. My first NHS consultant post from 1991 to 1999 was for the South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. In 2000, I moved to work as a senior consultant psychiatrist for the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust until September 2015 when I left the NHS to focus on my private practice. From January 2021 until January 2025, I worked as a senior consultant psychiatrist for Harbor/Orchestrate Healthcare, a private community mental health service based in London. We received referrals from all over the UK. I had practicing privileges at both the Priory Hospital North London and the Dukes Priory Hospital In Essex. In 2022, I joined the Nightingale private psychiatriatric hospital in Marylebone, London as a visiting consultant psychiatrist with practicing privileges with outpatient work and inpatient admitting rights.

Areas of interest

I have a special interest and expertise in the diagnosis and management of mood disorders including unipolar depression and bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, PTSD, postnatal disorders, OCD and psychiatric complications of physical illness and chronic pain. I am also interested in the medico legal aspect of psychiatry and have extensive experience as an expert witness and for many years provided high quality medico legal reports for the courts and solicitors on civil and criminal cases.
