About me

I am a compassionate and insightful mental health professional possessing a broad range of clinical experience with people with mental health conditions including anxiety, trauma, depression and relationship difficulties. I have gained this from over 10 years of working in NHS settings.

Through working in multiple childrens' services, I am specialised in providing interventions for children with disabilities and their families, including assessing and treating Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Therapeutic Approaches

I work integratively across several evidence-based psychological models:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - A form of therapy focusing on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these connect together. We may notice how your thinking, mental images or memories can keep certain behaviours going or can impact on your mood. We may experiment with cognitive or behavioural strategies to try to modify some of these.

Family/Systemic Model - I will draw on systems theory to broaden the focus of the treatment from you as an individual to your family and social context. We will look at how relationships, patterns of interaction and communications shape your experiences. We will examine how problems have arisen in an interpersonal context and may have been impacted by wider frameworks such as expectations of culture or gender.

Psychodynamic Model - We will use our therapeutic relationship to understand your symptoms and how they relate to your early history, development and current relationships. We will use unconscious communications as well as what is spoken in the therapy room to inform our work.

Narrative Therapy - We will use curiosity in examining and understanding the stories and narratives that make up your life, what stories are dominant and perhaps disempowering, what stories are less well-developed and could be explored to develop an alternative narrative with richer resources and possibilities.

Motivational Interviewing - A style of counselling which is highly effective in working through the change process in addictions or other destructive behaviours. Using empathy, reflective listening and collaboration, we will non-judgementally explore your values, beliefs and the ambivalence that may be preventing you from making positive changes.

I am passionate about using evidence-based psychological techniques that are grounded in a tailored understanding of a person’s distress. I am proactive and enthusiastic about achieving successful therapy outcomes. I work to build trust and create hope where it has been lost.
