Mr Siddharth Gowrishankar is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford. He offers clinical consultations and advice on all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery and his area of special interest include Dentoalveolar surgery, Facial deformity, Maxillofacial trauma and Minimal access TMJ surgery.
He graduated with honours in dentistry (BDS) in 2000 in Chennai, India, followed by a 3-year post-graduate degree in OMFS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) including a post-graduate thesis on dentofacial deformity (2005). He completed his medical degree at Barts and The Royal London Hospital (2010), before which he had secured his Membership of Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS)with RCS England (2006) & Fellowship of Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDSRCSI) with RCS Ireland (2007).
Mr Gowrishankar completed medical foundation training at University College Hospital, London (2012) and completed core surgical training in Northwest Thames (Imperial college & Royal Free Hospital) with an MRCS from RCS England (2013). He then completed his speciality training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at Oxford and secured his FRCS in OMFS from RCS England (2018), prior to his appointment as a Consultant in the same unit.
He has also completed a Deformity fellowship in Belgium and TMJ fellowship in Spain before taking up his Consultant post. His work also includes joint clinics and procedures with Neurosurgeons (complex craniofacial trauma) and Orthodontist (Orthognathic clinic).
He also does NHS work at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury as well as Amersham and Marlow Hospitals, High Wycombe.
Research & Teaching
Mr Gowrishankar has always had a keen interest in teaching and education and is currently an Honorary Lecturer at RCS England and has been conferred the FDS Lectureship for teaching at the college for the last 15 years. He has organised and conducted multiple national and international courses for Specialist Registrars in OMFS and taught at various national and international conferences. He has served as the Education and CPD rep for the BAOMS (British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) FiT Council and is an Honorary Surgical Tutor at the Oxford Medical School and is the President of the Oxford University Medical Education Fellows.
He also works as an education and clinical supervisor for both medical and dental foundation and core trainees in Oxford.
Mr Gowrishankar has written a book chapter on Dentofacial deformity in the Oxford Handbook of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as presenting and producing posters at more than 30 presentations and international conferences.
