About me

I've practised as a child and adolescent clinical psychologist since 2005 and most recently worked for Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust in Brighton and Hove Specialist CAMHS for over 10 years. The cornerstone of my practice is a dedication to improving the emotional resilience and overall quality of life of the children and young people I work with and that of their families, carers and educators.

Building a safe, friendly and non-critical experience is key to a successful therapeutic relationship, so I'll put a lot of thought and effort into the child or young person's likes and dislikes, hobbies, skills and other strengths before we get going with the tough business of exploring feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

Once I've got to know the children, young person and their immediate family, I'll build a shared picture of their needs and strengths, sometimes looking at what might have led to those needs and what could be changed to help them feel better and lead a more fulfilling life.

I'll incorporate evidence-based and practice-based strategies into my work, which can become creative and adventurous for all involved. These strategies come from the world of psychology and behaviour change research. Most of the time we will be exploring feelings, thoughts, behaviour and motivation to figure out together how all these link up and how they can be tweaked to bring about useful change and build on strengths. I also use mindfulness practices in sessions when this is helpful and appealing to the children and young people.
