About me
I qualified in medicine from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in 1986, and underwent surgical training in Manchester, Leicester, Newcastle upon Tyne and Sydney, Australia.
I was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in the speciality of General Surgery in1999. In the same year I was appointed a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in colorectal surgery at Darlington Memorial Hospital, where I worked until 2014.
I have had practising privileges at the private Woodlands Hospital in Darlington since it opened in 2001. My areas of interest are listed in the section below.
I currently divide my working time between the Woodlands Hospital and James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where I participate in the on-call rota as an Emergency General Surgeon.
I am a member of both the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
From 1997 until 2018 I was a Track Medical Officer for the Newcastle Diamonds Motorcycle Speedway Team, providing medical cover and prehospital care at weekly home racing events. Unfortunately, the club is no longer operating.
In my spare time I enjoy watching wildlife, particularly birds, and travelling the world. I am a season ticket holder for Newcastle United.
