About me
Hi there, my name is Stef and I'm a Clinical Psychologist
A bit about my background and values as a psychologist.
As a psychologist I will aim to help you make sense of the difficulties you are experiencing. I view you as the expert of your life and see myself as coming alongside you in your journey. Life can be painful and disappointing, and we live in a world which can often tell us that we are not good enough. I think it is important that we can learn to be more compassionate to ourselves, however I recognise that this is a skill that needs a bit of practice!
Over the years I have worked in several services and had the opportunity to work with lots of people from different backgrounds who all came with their own unique experiences. As well as working here, I also work in the NHS with children, young people, families and adults struggling with a range of difficulties.
What would it be like to meet you?
For many people, starting therapy can feel overwhelming. Lots of people may have been struggling for a long time and may be unsure about what to expect. I understand how difficult it may feel to sit in front of a stranger and open up about sensitive things. We would initially begin by getting to know each other and thinking about the difficulties you have been experiencing and what you would like to be different. I want therapy to be helpful to you and will therefore check in to see how you are feeling and to see if there is anything I can do differently.
What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?
I can offer support for children, young people, families, couples, and adults experiencing a range of issues including low mood, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties and difficulties related to trauma. I would describe myself as an integrative therapist and draw from a range of therapeutic models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focussed Therapy, Systemic and Narrative Therapy and Psychodynamic Therapy.
What do you enjoy outside of psychology?
I really believe in the importance of having a healthy work life balance and the importance of self-care. I go to the gym regularly as a way of releasing stress and connecting body with mind. I love music (and singing badly!) and catching up with friends to have a good laugh and eat too much food!
