About me

Mr Luke Nicholson is a leading consultant ophthalmic surgeon based in London, renowned for his expertise in retinal diseases and cataract surgery. He specialises in retinal vein occlusion, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular oedema, diabetic retinopathy, and cataract procedures. He sees private patients at Moorfields Private Eye Hospital, with his NHS practice based at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Nicholson holds an MD in Retinal Vascular Diseases from University College London and graduated with distinction in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from Newcastle University. He is a Fellow of both the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth).

His advanced training includes a Clinical and Research Fellowship in Medical Retina at the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, Moorfields Eye Hospital (2014�2016), followed by a further Clinical Fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis (2017�2018).

As Director of the Medical Retina Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Mr Nicholson leads service innovation and clinical excellence. His research focuses on retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and the use of retinal imaging to predict and manage future complications. His work is widely published in peer-reviewed journals, and he currently leads several national and international clinical studies in diabetic retinopathy.

Mr Nicholson is a member of the General Medical Council (GMC), the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA), and other professional bodies. He is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each patient's needs.
