About me

When somebody experiences severe life stressors or trauma, it is not unusual for this to have a significant impact on their lives. Having worked as a psychologist in the NHS and MoD for nearly 20 years, I have always been humbled by the strength and resilience people show when confronting or working through their difficulties and moving forward with their lives.

As a Consultant Chartered Clinical Psychologist, I have worked extensively with clients struggling with a wide variety of difficulties including work related stress, self-esteem and confidence issues, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I believe no single approach is right for everyone and so I have trained in a variety of modalities including CBT, EMDR, ACT, psychodynamic, Schema focussed , Mindfulness, CPT and person centred approaches amongst others. I work with both adults and young people, individually or in groups offering both time-limited interventions and open-ended sessions, depending on need.

Having trained in South Africa between 1991-1998, I have gained an understanding of people from diverse cultural perspectives and speak several languages. I moved to the UK in 2000 and worked in CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) until 2009. I then worked at Broomfield hospital developing the individual Pain Management service until I accepted a post in the MoD (Ministry of Defence), where I have been working for the past 15 years. I have lectured at both University of Essex and Hertfordshire University, as well as presented as a guest speaker at several conferences and symposiums for the MoD, Veteran Services and NHS Trusts. I was on the UKPTS board for 2 years and helped develop guidelines for working with Complex Trauma. In 2010 I was part of a team that received an award for a Veterans Network that we set up. I have a special interest in Resilience and Mental well-being and I am a trainer in Suicide First Aid intervention (ASIST)
