About me

Dr Anupam Paul is an experienced consultant rheumatologist with an established practice in the NHS spanning almost a decade. He has passionately developed a flexible working model for rheumatology service with a view to improving access to early diagnosis as well as urgent care, recognizing the fluctuating nature of rheumatological conditions. He aims to provide a safe, patient centered, empathetic and evidence-based care to every single patient.

He graduated from the University of Delhi, India in 1994 and completed postgraduate training in General Medicine in India obtaining MD degree from University of Delhi. He commenced his postgraduate training in the UK in 2003 as a junior doctor and completed his specialist training in Rheumatology and General (Internal) Medicine in the West Midlands rotation in 2011 leading to award of certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) in both Rheumatology and General (Internal) Medicine. He has been elected to the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2015.

Dr Paul is currently a substantive NHS consultant and also the Clinical Director for the Department of Rheumatology at The James Cook University Hospital, a busy teaching hospital in Middlesbrough and also offers monthly peripheral clinics at Whitby Community Hospital. He has a special interest in early inflammatory arthritis and soft tissue rheumatism. He has completed Level 2 accreditation in musculoskeletal ultrasonography by European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and skilfully applies musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnostic purposes and also for guiding injections. He leads the South Tees �Living Well with Your Fibromyalgia� multidisciplinary education and therapy programme for patients with fibromyalgia. He is the clinical audit coordinator for the rheumatology department and contributes actively to patient safety initiatives and clinical governance process.

Dr Paul is also a keen educator and has been awarded Master of Medical Education (MMedEd) from University of Warwick. He enjoys teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and is currently a clinical mentor for medical students. He also participates in clinical research and is currently the principal investigator of a clinical trial. He has published in scientific papers widely in international journals and have presented in national and international conferences.

Dr Paul offers consultation for diagnosis and medical treatment of all kinds of musculoskeletal and joint related problems in adults. He also offers clinic based joint and soft tissue injections.
