About me
Mr Uthaya Selbong is one of a few selected consultant surgeons who has a double professional qualification both in dentistry and medicine. After his medical degree, as part of basic surgical training, he worked in major teaching hospitals in the field of orthopaedic and trauma, general surgery and vascular surgery.
Following successful completion of his basic surgical training, Mr Selbong chose to complete his higher surgical training in the East Midlands Deanery. This involved working and training in extremely busy major teaching hospitals such as Nottingham, Derby and Leicester.
Upon completion of his speciality training, he worked as a consultant at Royal Derby Hospital mainly managing patients with head and neck malignancy, salivary gland disorder, trauma and gained invaluable experience working alongside pioneers in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Mr Selbong completed a research degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the prestigious Queen Mary University of London with distinction. He is currently conducting a national study on patients undergoing rehabilitation following major reconstructive surgery and has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and routinely presents in national and international conferences.
Recently, he was awarded surgical consultant teacher of the year by the Oxford University Medical School.
