About me
I qualified from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1985, and trained in Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Sydney, before taking up an NHS consultant post in Cornwall in 1997 where I established one of the first endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) programmes in the Southwest, and developed one of the first comprehensive NHS endovenous programmes in the UK.
After 20 years as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust I left NHS practice at the end of 2017 to pursue my interest in endovenous treatments, in order to provide a comprehensive range of keyhole varicose vein treatments to all my patients.
I am married to Soraya, a Radiologist and we have 2 children currently studying at University in Cardiff and London

My outcomes
Outcomes (self-reported)
I have carried out more than 1200 varicose vein procedures at the Ramsay Duchy Hospital since 2008. All of these have been endovenous procedures undertaken under local anaesthesia, with the exception of 2 patients who required to have treatment under general anaesthesia for medical reasons.
27% of procedures were undertaken in patients who had undergone previous surgery for their varicose veins.
NATURE OF TREATMENTS
93% of patients were treated with endothermal ablation (with phlebectomies or foam injections in addition where indicated)
3% were treated with foam injections alone
3% were treated with mechanico-chemical ablation (Clarivein procedure)
1% were treated with cyanoacrylate glue occlusion (Venaseal procedure)
COMPLICATIONS
Overall 7.7% of patients required a second procedure to complete their treatment. Patients undergoing treatment for recurrent veins were twice as likely to require a second treatment (12%) when compared with patients with no previous treatment (6%)
8 cases (0.7%) had persistent saphenous nerve injury post-treatment, manifest as ankle numbness
4 cases (0.4%) were diagnosed with post-procedure heat-induced junctional thrombosis or DVT
1 case (0.1%) developed a significant post-procedure infection
