About me

Hi! Im Sarah. Im a Clinical Psychologist.

?How did I become a Clinical Psychologist?

?I started my career working in the care industry, supporting adults with learning disabilities and young care leavers to develop the skills to live an independent and valued life. I found that the conversations I shared with these individuals provided me with a new insight and perspective and I found it rewarding to help empower other individuals. This experience attracted me to a career in Clinical Psychology.

I started my journey to qualification working in a service for adults living with chronic pain, in addition to joining a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. I then went onto complete my Clinical Doctorate at the University of Hertfordshire. This course highlighted the importance of valuing the similarities and differences of peoples experiences and gave me the opportunity to work alongside children and adults in both community and hospital settings. I have been privileged to work alongside individuals that have experienced a range of emotional difficulties including anxiety and low mood and trauma. I have spent the past 2 years working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service London providing therapy to both children and their families.

?What would it be like to meet me?

?During our initial session we will spend some time getting to know each other. I will endeavour to provide a welcoming and non-judgemental space to help people to feel comfortable and at ease. I put those I meet at the centre of the work and will support you to explore your goals for therapy, in order to find an approach that fits with you. I will also let you know what to expect from our future sessions together.

What type of therapies do I use and what types of problems do I work with?

I work in an integrative way adapting my approach to fit with the person. However, I have received training in more structured approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills, whilst also using more exploratory approaches drawing on narrative and systemic ideas. I have experience helping people overcome difficulties such as worry, anxiety and low self-esteem and low mood, as well as difficulties within relationships.

What do I enjoy outside of psychology?

?I have a number of interests outside psychology. I enjoy the buzz of London and I like exploring different areas of the city with friends. Growing up I have always had a passion for music and comedy and enjoy going to see live shows. In contrast, I love the outdoors and enjoy taking time out of the city to go hiking.
