About me
Mr Buderi grew up in Romania and obtained his medical degree MBBCh summa cum laude from “Vasile Goldis” West University of Arad, Romania; he then trained at Queen Mary University and got the MSc in Surgical skills and science - simulation in surgical training in 2009.
Between 2012 and 2020, he worked at some of the most renowned UK specialistic hospitals for heart and lung disease surgery in order to implement and expand his medical knowledge and surgical skills in:
single port surgery,
robotic assisted surgery (RAS)
electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB)
complex lung resection
minimally invasive lung resection
oesophageal surgery.
By that time, he had carried out more than a thousand procedures of which over two hundred were complex lung resections with the majority involving lung cancer.
In 2020 he was a consultant thoracic surgeon at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, before moving back to London and taking up a post as a consultant thoracic surgeon at Royal Brompton Hospital where he performs close to four hundred cases per year with an average of ten cases per week.
Clinical expertise
Mr Buderi specialises in thoracic surgery and is an expert in the surgical management of lung cancer. He treats a range of conditions, including:
primary or secondary lung cancer
primary or secondary mediastinal tumours
tracheal cancer and stenosis
germ cell tumours
pneumothorax and Pleural disease
diaphragm plication.
He performs a number of procedures, such as:
adult and paediatric thoracic surgery benign and malignant
surgery for primary lung cancer, including single or multi-port video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) lobectomy and anatomical segmentectomy
robotic lung resection for primary or secondary lung cancer
tracheobronchial airway surgery
primary and metastatic chest sarcoma surgery
lung volume reduction surgery for emphysema
surgery involving the mediastinum
all types of standard and complex lung resections for lung cancer, with a special interest in lung-sparing techniques (sleeve resections)
diagnostic bronchoscopy.
Research Interests
Mr Silviu Buderi's research interests include training and education in thoracic surgery and patient care improvement services.

Teaching
Mr Buderi is an educational/clinical supervisor for trainee doctors in adult and paediatric thoracic surgery and regularly acts as a supervisor for medical students nationally and internationally. He is part of the panel for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons exam in cardiothoracic surgery.
He is a member of the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery training faculty supporting national and international trainee surgeons/doctors in learning thoracic surgery, holding live or video lectures and Wetlabs.
Moreover, he is running independent courses in cardiothoracic surgery supported by J&J and Medtronic
