About me

I am registered, licenced and in good-standing with the General Medical Council and on the specialist register as a consultant psychiatrist. I am also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. I am experienced in old age psychiatry, adult psychiatry and medical psychotherapy.

I have trained as a group analyst and as a psychodynamic psychotherapist. I am a member of the Institute of Group Analysis (a member organisation of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and the Association of Medical Psychodynamic Psychotherapists (a member organisation of the British Psychoanalytic Council). I am fully up-to-date with the continuing professional development and supervisory requirements of the British Psychoanalytic Council and the Institute of Group Analysis (a member organisation of the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy).

I am approved by the Secretary for Health as an Approved Clinician and Section 12(2) doctor under the Mental Health Act 1983.

I have worked in mental health since 2003. I trained initially as a psychiatrist and have held NHS and independent sector positions as a consultant. I continue to hold an NHS consultant psychiatrist position. I have also held the position of medical director for an independent hospital for 3 years during which time the Care Quality Commission rated the services as 'Good'. In 2020, I was recognised as a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

In addition to my private psychotherapeutic practice, I have worked as a lecturer in psychoanalytic theory teaching undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and to trainee professional psychotherapists in addition to conducting research into the field.
