About me
Hello, and welcome. I know from personal experience that it is hard to find a good therapist. I hope by telling you a little about me and and way of working that you can make an informed choice for your therapy.
I believe that our life experiences shape how we think and feel about ourselves and how we exist in the world. I embrace and value the diversity of all human neurocognitive styles. I am neuroaffirming in my approach, have lived experience of neurodiversity and warmly welcome those who identify as neurodivergent. I am an ally of the LGBTQ+ community and offer a safe space to be fully yourself.
I am an experienced, Senior Accredited Counsellor (SCoPEd Column C) and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner with a passion for normalising mental ill health and supporting people in their recovery. I provide my services to across the UK via video sessions.
Starting with a counselling (talking therapy) approach can be very helpful. You may talk freely and without judgement, feel heard, validated and understood, which can be enormously healing.
Where your issues stem from an overwhelming or traumatic experience, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) Therapy may help to change how you think about yourself and your physiological reaction to triggers. EMDR Therapy is an evidence based, globally recognised, advanced form of psychotherapy involving bi-lateral stimulation of the body to relieve disturbing memories, uncomfortable feelings and somatic symptoms.
I work with many issues, specialising in working with trauma, and my particular areas of interest include:
- PTSD and Complex PTSD
- Childhood trauma
- Accidents and workplace injury
- Family relationship difficulties
- Parenting concerns
- Separation and divorce
- Sexual abuse
- Complex grief
- Work/job related stress and career transition
- Neuro-divergent related issues
- Birth trauma
- Peri/menopause impact on mental health
- Men's issues
I use an integrated approach which means I work in a Person Centred (client led) way with a Psychodynamic perspective (exploring the past and the unconscious mind). I invite you to tell me about your present concerns and your past experiences as I believe that these are at the root of our mental heath difficulties. When I have a good sense of what may be causing your symptoms, I will recommend either a talking therapy approach, EMDR Therapy, or a blend of both. You are free to choose what you find most helpful and I will give you information to help you decide.
I have gained clinical experience as an associate working for private mental health organisations, employee assistance programmes, rehabilitation services and insurance companies. I have voluntary sector experience as a volunteer and employee, where I managed a school based counselling service, counselling children and young people and supporting parents and carers. I also established and currently manage a counselling service, supervising students and qualified counsellors providing counselling in the care sector.
My previous career in the banking sector in management roles where I survived restructures, recessions and redundancy gives me a deep understanding of what life is like for clients who work in similar, stressful corporate environments. I can relate to clients experiencing job insecurity and career transitions having made that difficult journey myself.
My personal, painful life experiences have given me a capacity for deep empathy and compassion for others' suffering. I am no stranger to trauma and with me you can feel psychologically held, accepted as you are, and experience a healing relationship. I look forward to hearing from you.
As I work as a sole practitioner and have other commitments, my private client availability is limited to Fridays. Appointments are in demand. I rarely have immediate availability and there may be a wait before I can offer an appointment. Email is the best way to check my availability and waiting time.
