About me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I work with people experiencing a wide variety of emotional, psychological difficulties. I have over 20 years’ clinical experience in the field of mental health working in the NHS, private and voluntary sectors. I currently work part-time providing Expert Witness opinion, undertaking work for (family and criminal) courts.

I work with a range of presenting issues including anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, psychosis, trauma, relationship problems, impulse control issues and risky behaviours.

As a clinical psychologist I have been trained in a range of evidence-based psychological therapies, such as such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focussed, and Systemic therapy. I am able to integrate these models - as needed - to embody a compassionate approach to therapy that is tailored to the individual.

Areas of interest

My specialist interest is in Schema Therapy for adults age 18+, which is an integrative type of therapy that aims to treat personality disorders and other mental health concerns that don’t always respond to other treatment options.

Schema therapy is based on the premise that maladaptive schema are self-defeating patterns that we keep repeating throughout our lives, which contribute to problematic coping methods and behaviours, if left untreated.

Unfulfilled core needs could manifest as fear of abandonment, mistrust, over-dependence, lack of self-control, impaired performance, perfectionist tendencies, and/or approval seeking to name but a few.

If you recognise any of these in yourself and you are stuck, struggling, or it is causing difficulties in your relationships with family/friends/work, Schema Therapy is recommended for you.

Schema therapy aims to teach you how to ensure your emotional needs are met in a healthy way that doesn’t cause distress.
