Areas of interest

Mr Popert's surgical expertise is in radical prostatectomy and he has carried out over 600 of these procedures. In the last 5 years he has successfully transferred his experience from conventional open radical prostatectomy to the robotic assisted approach.
In addition, he has the UK's largest experience of single visit dynamic intra-operative prostate brachytherapy and has carried out over 600 of these cases between 2004 and 2012.
He has an interest in Precision Prostate Diagnostics and has developed a unique transperineal biopsy approach which provides accurate tumour localisation without the morbidity associated with more extensive mapping protocols. This approach has been further enhanced by the technique of MRI fusion targeted biopsy of the prostate which he introduced in March 2012, the first department in the UK to do so. He has a cohort of over 350 patients on active surveillance, most of whom have benefited from the certainty provided by the transperineal biopsy approach.
