About me
Mr Mirnezami is a consultant colorectal surgeon and is the Clinical Director for Colorectal, General and Emergency Surgery at the Royal Free Hospital. Mr Mirnezami offers treatment for all benign and malignant conditions of the small intestine, large intestine and anus, as well as general surgery conditions such as abdominal wall hernia. He leads the Colorectal Cancer MDT and his practice is primarily focused on the operative management of colorectal cancer and neuroendocrine tumours of the midgut. He performs a high volume of laparoscopic ('keyhole') procedures for colorectal cancer and also performs a high volume of surgical procedures for neuroendocrine tumours, for which he is a key opinion leader and tertiary referral specialist, receiving referrals from all over the United Kingdom.
Mr Mirnezami is firmly committed to evidence-based medicine and has several active areas of ongoing research focused on colorectal and neuroendocrine tumours. He holds a doctoral degree awarded by Imperial College London for his PhD thesis, supervised by Lord Ara Darzi, which evaluated colorectal cancer metabolism. He has published over 80 manuscripts in scientific journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet Oncology, Annals of Surgery and Nature. He has authored 7 book chapters on wide ranging clinical topics including surgical oncology, robotic surgery, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Mr Mirnezami is passionate about the role of personalised healthcare initiatives in treating patients with cancer, and previously served on the World Economic Forum (WEF) Precision Medicine Council, producing a WEF white-paper on the subject, entitled 'Preparing for Precision Medicine'.
