About me
Mr Amir Ghanbari is a highly experienced general and colorectal surgeon, based at the Princess Grace Hospital, London Independent Hospital and Homerton University Hospital in London.
He specialises in gastrointestinal surgeries, mainly laparoscopic colorectal (key-hole) surgery and his main areas of interest include Colorectal Cancers, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis) Surgery. He is also a skilled endoscopist and performs colonoscopies and Flexible Sigmoidoscopies.
He is highly trained in treating benign ano-rectal conditions such as Haemorrhoids, Anal Fissure, Fistulas and Pilonidal Sinus disease.
He is an expert in general surgical procedures such as hernia repair and gallbladder surgery as well as emergency procedures such as appendicectomies.
After completing his medical degree at the University of Dundee, Mr Ghanbari went on to do his surgical training in London and East Midlands including a period of research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) In 2017.
After finishing his fellowship in Pelvic Floor & Inflammatory Bowel Disease Surgeries, Mr Ghanbari began his first colorectal consultant surgeon post at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He then returned to London to take up a consultant post at Homerton University Hospital, where he is still based. He is currently the clinical director for surgery at this hospital. He joined London Independent Hospital in 2019 and The Princess Grace Hospital in 2020.
Mr Ghanbari has an active interest in teaching and research. He has written a number of peer-reviewed papers and has presented at national and international meetings. He lectures and supervises medical students as part of their perioperative training and study modules.
He is also an instructor for the Care of the Critically Ill (CCrISP) and Basic Surgical Skills courses.
He has an outstanding reputation amongst his patients for the care he provides.
