About me
Dr. Coen is a qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologist (DClinPsy) and Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) providing evidence based support to people who are experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties. He has a wealth of experience in helping individuals overcome mental health challenges in order to reconnect with their values and areas of life that are important to them such as work, family and friends and getting back in touch with activities that bring enjoyment and pleasure. He takes a collaborative, flexible approach to therapy; providing a safe, calm environment in which to explore problems together. Steven also recognises the importance of client confidentiality and the difficulty many people experience in seeking help and talking about very personal experiences. He recognises the impact mental health can have on daily life and has witnessed therapy as an effective way to help people cope and overcome such problems which often helps individual to do more of what they want in life.
As a doctor of clinical psychology, Steven is trained in a variety of psychotherapy approaches (cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), systemic therapy and psychodynamic therapy) and experienced in supporting individuals at all stages of life (child to older adult). He specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety problems (e.g. panic disorder, phobia, generalised anxiety disorder, OCD), long term conditions (e.g. chronic pain, chronic fatigue), relationship issues, and managing the long term effects of psychological trauma (e.g. emotional, physical, sexual abuse) such as difficulty managing emotions and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Steven utilizes his clinical experience and research knowledge to choose a psychological therapy tailored to each individual problem and person. In doing this he is providing an evidence based approach, using the most effective interventions to supporting clients to overcome difficulties, manage and cope with their experiences. Each person will undergo a thorough assessment before agreeing together which approach would be best suited to their needs.
In addition to his clinical work, Steven also has a wealth of experience in clinical research culminating in over 50 publications including journal articles, conference proceedings and book chapters.
