About me

I am a Consultant Dermatologist with an interest in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of all skin problems including moles, sun related skin damage, skin cancers, eczema and acne.
An Entrance Exhibitioner and Foundation Scholar at Christ’s College Cambridge, Dr Phillips trained in General Practice and Internal Medicine in Taunton and Bath from 1985-90. This enabled him to gain an understanding of the medical context within which skin problems arise, as well as their social and emotional impact. From 1990-2 he was Registrar in Dermatology at Birmingham General Hospital and Birmingham Children's Hospital gaining great general dermatology experience. He subsequently won a Wellcome Fellowship and Honorary Senior Registrar post at the globally prestigious St John's Institute of Dermatology at St Thomas' Hospital from 1992-1996. While in this post he had the privilege to train in advanced diagnostic dermatopathology.
In 1996 Dr Phillips took up his first Consultant post at the Royal Free Hospital, London and developed a busy private practice at 99 Harley St. Five years later, in 2001 he moved back to his home town of Bath. From 2001-18 he was a consultant dermatologist at the Royal United Hospital, including spells as Clinical Lead for Dermatology and Chair of the local skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Dr Phillips retired from the Royal United Hospital in 2018 as arthritis related foot pain made his role, which required lots of standing and walking, unsustainable. This has given him further insight into the problems that patients experience.
