About me
I qualified as a Psychologist/Social Worker in South Africa (BA.Hon.) in 1996. Upon joining the National Crime and Reintegration Service (NICRO) in South Africa, I worked with young people and their families who committed petty crimes. My role also involved working with victims of offenders as well as the offenders themselves.
Upon moving to England in 2002, I began working for the Local Authority as a Child Protection Social Worker. Later, I pursued a Masters Degree through The University of South Africa in Psychology, with a specific focus on Gestalt Play Therapy and Gestalt Psychotherapy. This focus of study led me to The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), where I have been working since 2005.
To further enhance my skills, I joined a Systemic Family Therapy team and embarked on a second Masters Degree, an MSc in Systemic, Couple, and Family Psychotherapy through The University of Bedfordshire. I completed this program in 2012. Alongside my studies, I developed my private practice, working with individuals of all ages and a wide range of presenting concerns.
My interest continued to evolve, leading me to pursue a Professional Doctorate in Systemic, Couple, and Family Psychotherapy through The Tavistock, University of Essex, where I graduated with distinction in 2023. The focus of my doctoral research was on gender, power dynamics, and the use of language. My analysis employed critical discourse analysis, particularly examining contemporary male gender issues.
I firmly believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental to effective treatment. Therefore, I approach my work with clients in a warm, non-judgmental manner, always striving to help them achieve their individual goals.
Areas of interest
I provide psychotherapy to individuals facing diverse mental health challenges, encompassing but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, bereavement, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, and various health-related concerns. Additionally, I support clients in managing stress, navigating behaviour issues in children - including anger outbursts, toileting difficulties, and sleep disturbances - and addressing other psychological ailments that may impact their well-being.
