About me

Dr Laith Al-Rubaiy is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. He is also an honorary Professor at Swansea University Medical School in Swansea, Professor Laith Al-Rubaiy won two highly competitive scholarships to complete his post graduate medical studies at the State University of New York in the USA and then at King’s College London in the UK. He then moved to Wales to pursue his clinical academic trainings in Wales leading to accreditation in Hepatology, Gastroenterology and General Medicine. He did part of his advanced hepatology training at the Royal Free Hospital in London. He was awarded a PhD from Swansea University School of Medicine for his work in applying health informatics in Gastroenterology health service research and clinical trials to assess and measure patients’ reported outcome measures (PROMs).

Dr Al-Rubaiy is an award winning doctor and have been awarded 3 competitive national and local awards for my work in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has also been awarded 12 grants and 2 highly competitive scholarships throughout his career. In 2017, Prof Al-Rubaiy was competitively selected to be named the “Young Gastroenterologist of the year: Emerging Leader” by the British Society of Gastroenterology for his clinical work, research, medical education and collaborations. He published more than 50 peer reviewed articles, 14 case reports and 37 abstract and conference presentations. He was also involved in writing 3 books/ chapters
