About me
From restoring restful sleep to removing cancer with precision, I'm here to help you breathe easier, speak more clearly, swallow with ease, and live a longer, healthier life.
Mr Jahangir Ahmed is a consultant head & neck, sleep, and airway surgeon known for clinical excellence, surgical precision, and patient-centred care. Educated at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College School of Medicine, he graduated with distinction in 2001, receiving the Gold Medal in Pathology. He also holds an MA in Experimental Psychology from Cambridge and a PhD in Molecular Oncology from Barts Cancer Institute, where his work contributed to cancer immunotherapy development.
After ENT training across leading London hospitals, he became a consultant at Barts Health and UCLH in 2017. He is now Clinical Lead for ENT at the Royal London Hospital and plays a central role in managing obstructive sleep apnoea, head and neck cancer and thyroid disease.
Mr Ahmed offers expert, personalised care across the full spectrum of ENT and head and neck conditions. He is especially recognised for his work in sleep apnoea and airway surgery. For patients struggling with snoring or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), particularly those intolerant to CPAP, he provides a full range of advanced procedures including radiofrequency, coblation, laser surgery, and two of the UK's most advanced options: hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) and transoral robotic surgery (TORS). These minimally invasive approaches help restore natural breathing during sleep. His team has successfully weaned over 75% of CPAP-intolerant patients off CPAP entirely, a transformative result.
He also treats nasal obstruction and sinus disease, often unrecognised causes of poor sleep, using endoscopic and image-guided techniques to address sinusitis, polyps, and structural issues, significantly improving breathing and sleep quality.
In thyroid surgery, Mr Ahmed runs a high-volume, low-complication practice. He performs both standard and advanced procedures, including selective neck dissection for advanced thyroid cancer, with a focus on preserving nerve function to protect voice and neck function.
His practice extends to managing voice disorders, swallowing difficulties, and complex airway reconstruction, as well as benign and malignant tumours of the tonsils, tongue, larynx, pharynx, salivary glands, and thyroid. He is especially noted for scarless, transoral approaches using laser, coblation, and robotic techniques.
One of the UK's most experienced Da Vinci robotic surgeons, Mr Ahmed provides minimally invasive treatment that prioritises safety, function, and quality of life.
In addition to his clinical expertise, Mr Ahmed is committed to medical education and innovation. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and education co-lead for ENT at Barts Health. He trains junior surgeons, publishes widely, and frequently presents at national and international conferences, ensuring his care remains informed by the latest research.
Respected for his calm, attentive approach and clear communication, Mr Ahmed takes time to understand each patient's concerns, explains options thoroughly, and supports them throughout their journey, from diagnosis to recovery.
Whether you are dealing with snoring, nasal blockage, sinusitis, sleep apnoea, a voice issue, a thyroid lump, or head and neck cancer, Mr Ahmed offers cutting-edge treatment with empathy, clarity, and a single focus:
To help you breathe easier, speak clearly, swallow comfortably, and live a longer, healthier life.
