About me
Mr Rajesh Deshmukh is a Consultant Eye Surgeon with world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Having completed his Ophthalmology training from Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and University Eye Hospital in Bristol, he was awarded specialist registration in Ophthalmology by the General Medical Council (GMC), UK.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, and the International Council of Ophthalmology.
Having passed Advanced Senior Fellowship in the field of Cataract Surgery and Vision Correction from Moorfields Eye Hospital London, Mr Deshmukh completed Certification in Laser and Refractive Surgery from Royal College of Ophthalmology and Post Graduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University.
Together with his skills in Cataract and Vision Correction, Mr Deshmukh is also Fellowship trained in the discipline of Medical Retinal disorders from the University Eye Hospital in Bristol, and he specialises in the treatment of macular degeneration, vein occlusion and diabetic retinopathy.
Mr Deshmukh is an expert Cataract Surgeon and has supervised and trained many ophthalmologists in cataract surgery since 2013. He offers a full range of refractive surgery options with experience in various intraocular lenses including Multifocal (for distance, intermediate and reading vision without glasses), EDOF (extended depth of focus for spectacle independence), Toric (to correct astigmatism) and EVO ICL (Implantable ‘Contact’ Lens).
Being a high-volume cataract surgeon, he performs more than 1000 cataract surgeries annually with complication rate (PCR) of 0.3 % as opposed to national average of 1.1 %
(National Ophthalmology Database Audit). He regularly gets referrals for high-risk complex cataract cases and is ‘Go-to-Guy’ for his peers for manual small incision suture less cataract surgery (MSICS), where routine phacoemulsification is challenging. He is amongst very few surgeons who practice and teach MSICS and ECCE (extracapsular cataract extraction) in the UK to deal with very complex cataracts.
Mr Deshmukh has electively worked as a facilitator for the World Health Organisation (WHO) and conducted teaching workshops in four of the five regions in Sultanate of Oman. He trained 40 general ophthalmologists and 45 allied health care professionals in screening, grading and treatment of diabetic retinopathy and setting up of referral pathway for the National Health Programme in Sultanate of Oman.
He has worked as research investigator in various randomised controlled trials (RCT) in subspecialties of Cataract Surgery and Medical Retina and has published his work in high impact peer-reviewed journals, including the AJO, JCRS, EYE, JNO and MEACO.
