About me
Dr Akbar is a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist, currently working at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated in 2009 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Medical School and did his Gastroenterology training in the Wessex region. Dr Akbar undertook a fellowship in intestinal failure and nutrition in Southampton. In 2018 he was awarded young Gastroenterologist of the year: emerging leader by the British Society of Gastroenterology. He was awarded a Master of Science in Medical Leadership by the Royal College of Physicians.
Areas of interest
18+; Diagnostic upper and lower GI endoscopy and small bowel capsule endoscopy; General gastroenterological issues including inflammatory bowel disease; Coeliac disease; iron deficiency anaemia; abdominal pain; reflux; vomiting, diarrhoea and irritable bowel syndrome; Particular interest in managing patients with malnutrition or who require supplemental and artificial nutrition.
