About me
Charles Hendrickse graduated from the Liverpool Medical School in 1984. He completed his basic surgical training in the Mersey region and moved to the West Midlands in 1987 where he completed his higher surgical training in General and Colorectal Surgery. He was awarded a Sheldon Research Fellowship for his research in colorectal cancer. This led to an MD, awarded by the University of Birmingham. He was appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in 1997 and works at the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. He is the Clinical lead for Colorectal Surgery for the Trust and is the Clinical Director for General Surgery. He is a Fellow and Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and an Honorary Senior Lecturer of the University of Birmingham and is the West Midlands representative of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and is President of the Birmingham Ileostomy Association.
Mr Hendrickse’s main specialist interest is colorectal disease. He offers diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy service for the diagnosis of benign and malignant disease on the colon and rectum.
He is a specialist in the surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer; in the surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease; in the management of benign proctology such as haemorrhoids, fissures and complex fistula-in-ano and in functional problems of the bowel such as rectal prolapse, rectocele, obstructive defecation and incontinence.
Mr Hendrickse also offers a general surgical service that covers conditions such as hernia’s (inguinal, umbilical and incisional), pilonidal disease and lumps and bumps.
Mr Hendrickse in his NHS and private practice offers a general paediatric surgical service and treats conditions such as paediatric hernia’s, undescended testicles , foreskin problems, and tongue tie’s
Research interests: Mr Hendrickse has ongoing research interest in colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease and is actively involved in recruiting to national trails.
