About me

Qualifications: BM, MRCP (UK), MRCPCH, FRCPCH, DM
I was a hospital consultant in Colchester specialising in paediatric allergy and respiratory medicine from 1999 until 2025, when I retired from the NHS. In addition, I was an honorary consultant in paediatric allergy for the Evelina Children's Hospital for many years and, since 2022, I have provided several contracted NHS hospital clinics in adult and paediatric allergy at some hospitals in England and Wales. I have also had an independent private practice specialising in diagnosing and managing general allergy disorders for all ages (i.e. adults as well as children) since 2000.

I obtained my primary medical qualification (Bachelor of Medicine) from Southampton University Medical School and began training in paediatrics from 1985 onwards at several well-known UK hospitals (including Southampton, Guys and St Thomas's, St George's and King's College Hospitals). Between 1993-97, I did clinical research at the renowned Dept of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, Imperial College, London and published several papers on asthma and allergy. I was awarded a DM (Doctor of Medicine: medical equivalent to a PhD) from Southampton University for my thesis based on my research there. During this period I ran regular clinics in allergy for adults at the Royal Brompton Hospital before returning to paediatrics to complete my higher specialist training in paediatric respiratory medicine. I was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2001.

I specialise in assessing and managing all types of general allergic diseases in children and adults (including urticaria and anaphylaxis, suspected food, respiratory or insect and venom allergies and allergic rhinitis). I helped set up, and chaired, the Paediatric Allergy Network of East Anglia (PANEA) which provides teaching for and supports clinical staff providing allergy care across the East of England. I have particular expertise in managing difficult asthma in children and was the co-lead lead for the East of England Children and Young Persons Asthma Clinical Network until I retired. Currently I sit on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee of the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
