About me
Professor Teare trained at Kings College, St Thomas' and St Mary's Hospitals before being appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at St Mary's in 1994. He is also a Consultant Gastroenterologist to the Royal Marsden Hospital. Professor Teare is head of endoscopy at both The London Clinic and Royal Marsden Hospitals.
His research interests are in colonoscopy, with support from the Wellcome Trust to develop new endoscopes.
He is developing new interventional therapies for obesity related type 2 diabetes with an NIHR grant to study the use of the endobarrier. He has been working on NOTES - Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery - performing conventional operations through the mouth, anus or vagina without an abdominal scar.
He has a BRC funded project between Imperial and the Royal Marsden looking at the role of the intestinal gut flora and the development of colorectal cancer.
He has over a hundred peer reviewed publications.
Areas of interest
Endoscopy, particularly colonoscopy performing over 1000 procedures annually with a large proportion performed unsedated as the procedure can be painless; inflammatory bowel disease; diarrhoea; abdomina pain.
